PocketCare is developed by Lab for Advanced Network Design, Evaluation and Research (LANDER) at SUNY Buffalo. This App aims to collect information on other nearby smartphones running the same App. Your phone does so by periodically using its Bluetooth interface to discover other such smartphones within a few meters. Depending on your setting and preference, PocketCare can also be used to record your approximate location information from GPS, as well as information on the nearby WiFi Access points. In addition, it can be used to determine your activity status (i.e., stationary, walking, or in a moving vehicle). Finally, PocketCare asks users to input their health status ((e.g., feel well, or having a flu) and provides useful health tips. The proximity information on various smartphones running the App, along with their users’ input on their health status, will be used tomonitor flu propagation, and ultimately help you and others to improve health.
This App will run in the background with minimal impact on normal usage of your phone and battery consumption. The more you let the App collect data, the more points you will accumulate, and the sooner you can enjoy App’s additional useful features which will be unlocked and made available to you each time you reach a new level. In addition, during the promotion period, users affiliated with SUNY Buffalo are also eligible to win cool prizes. Install this App and follow our facebook page PocketCareUB to obtain more detailed information.
